With my team of six HR assistants, I oversee processes within the employee life cycle: from new starter paperwork, administering family leave and the leaver process. I get the chance to work on new initiatives too, like updating the onboarding process, working on HR systems to make the new starter process leaner and the Right to Work audit. There’s a lot to keep up with, but that’s actually one of the reasons I went for the role. I love the variety: I can’t see myself ever getting bored here.
“One of the other great things about working here is being able to learn and develop in so many different ways. It’s not just the formal learning resources like our online portal; it’s the informal development and learning on the job too. A lot of that’s down to the culture: people are open and friendly, and always willing to help you out. There’s also a lot of contact with senior management, so you can learn from them. And there are events as well, like the ‘Lunch ‘n Learn’ sessions and update meetings about employment law.”
“The development opportunities here have helped me come a long way. As a new line manager, one area I’ve been working on is team management, and I’m really proud of how much I’ve improved. As for the future, I’m hoping to keep on learning in HR operations for a good while yet.”
