I did an MSc in Quality Management at university, so I was always going to be working in this area. I was drawn to Argos in particular because it’s a well-known blue chip company and I’ve actually always liked it, since going there as a youngster. I started out in 1998 as a QA Assistant, but before long I was promoted to QA Technologist, then Lead Technologist. After a while I got my big break and moved into the Home Retail Group Operations team, where I was promoted to Operations Management.
“Because I haven’t been in my current role long, things are still quite new to me. But already I can see there’s a lot of variety – a lot of different things to keep me busy. I oversee the technical files for our products, so it’s basically my responsibility to make sure everything has the right safety certification. I also oversee factory audits and ensure all our products have had full inspections.”
“It’s a lot of responsibility, not least because I’m also leading a team. That’s actually one of the best things about it though. It’s a brilliant feeling to be able to help and support people – to see that I’ve had a genuinely positive impact on them. If they’ve had a good, satisfying day and they’ve achieved something, that’s rewarding for me.”
