I joined Homebase about eight years ago, starting out in a junior HR role. I had been working in Financial Services, but I was attracted to the fast pace of retail. Things happened quickly after that: I had a couple of other roles at Homebase, then I moved into Home Retail Group itself when I was offered the Head of Resourcing role. After enjoying specialising in recruitment, I am now back to a generalist role as HR Business Partner for Financial Services.

“I love the challenges my current role brings – in no small part because of my brilliant line manager, who seems to know how to push me better than I know myself. The other great thing about the role is the flexibility. There’s more than enough work, but you can do it in the way that suits you best. I’m able to work from home one day a week, for instance. It’s about getting the work done – it doesn’t matter whether you’re in the office or at home in your pyjamas.”

“I think my greatest achievement here was helping Financial Services bring in a new behavioural framework. It was interesting because we had to speak to a lot of external companies like Sky and Nationwide. When we eventually presented the behavioural framework to the executive team, they said they didn’t want to change a thing. It felt like a firm validation of all our hard work.”
