I joined Home Retail Group through the Graduate Finance Scheme three years ago. I’d been looking for a finance-based scheme outside of the London area, so when I came across Home Retail Group’s Graduate Finance Scheme based in Milton Keynes, it seemed ideal. I had also heard that they were really supportive of students who were working towards their professional accountancy qualifications, so that was a big incentive too.
“The main reason I’ve stayed here is the people. Sometimes it can be incredibly busy, but because you’ve got supportive and friendly people around you, it’s always manageable. I’ve found even the senior management want to get to know you and help you strive for the best. The supportiveness extends to training too: Home Retail Group didn’t just give me study leave to do my CIMA qualification; they funded it too. It’s important to me that your employer is willing to invest in its employees.”
“Another key factor in me staying here is the ability to move around such a large company to gain experience in a wide range of different areas. There are always opportunities for you to develop your personal skills and progress. One of the best was volunteering as a student rep in my first year, which gave me real responsibility much earlier than I’d expected. I organised events and forums for student employees, and even had the chance to liaise with senior stakeholders only a few months after I’d joined.”
